Here is the finished product:
The 2nd picture is the back and its lopsided on the hanger... I asked her to send me a final picture of her in the wedding :) I am ecstatic that it is finished!!
Here is a picture of the actual last fitting:
I needed still to hem it, change where the zipper ended, put a stitch to keep the front closed a little and lift it from the top seams...so the front doesn't hang and show everything. I removed an original pleat from the front because it stuck out strangely. That was tough because of the extra fabric. It created an extra bloop on the side seam, but I didn't know what to do with it. When it's on, it hangs nicely. Oh, I also still needed to attach the lining. I created the lining to the bottom; the original pattern only showed a lining for the top. I used this great tutorial to attach the lining to the vent: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EV6dNTi6WvU Thank you to FashionSewingBlogTV!
I'm a teacher and started sewing summer 2014. This blog has become about sewing and the projects I have made.

Last fitting?
My adjustments look like they will work. I've waited to attach the skirt until this last fitting. I pinned in the zipper and at one point there was NO way the top would've zipped. I checked out the front and was cursing like crazy in my head. The middle interfaced lining was folded up and not allowing the fabric to lie flat. Whew! I was very upset if I had done all of these adjustments then they wouldn't work. I feel like I can knock out the rest in a day. I should be done by next week, yay!

Lessons Learned thus far...
I just made an executive decision to nix the middle pleats from this dress. I attached a picture of where I'm at with the top. I am just a beginner and tried doing them 3 times and couldn't get them with enlarging the skirt. I went to buy more fabric and they only had about a yard left. Because of this, I'm trying to add to the backside but am a little afraid of the side seam and how it will hang.
Lesson 1: know your measurements before buying the pattern. Yes, this should be known but I hadn't run into an issue until now. Since I'm new, I didn't take this to heart for this project and now I'm worried. I'm expanding the size but its making those pleats very difficult for me. So, I've decided it will look ok with a flat front plus it will be easier to expand. They shouldn't even list sizes on the packages to force people to measure. Haha had I seen this post about making a muslin draft, I would be in much better shape now and not worried about the fit.
Lesson 2: lining isn't that bad. Last night, I did do a boo boo and didn't hide the inside stitch between the pit and top waist, but its unseen by anyone but the wearer. This morning I pictured how I should be sewed it, oh well. I am adding lining to the skirt part and like the way it looks finished. It makes me want to add linings to some cheap skirts I have, but first I should fit into them again!

First project for someone else
I've been working on a dress for a friend in a wedding in August. Yesterday I finished the sleeves and linking of the top part.
The bottom 3 are without the lining. Its when I had completed the sleeves. The first picture is with the top lining. I think it looks good. The pattern is Simplicity 1420, size 24. Sewing the lining around the arm holes was a little nerve wrecking to verify I wasn't grabbing the sleeves in the process. The fabric is a chocolate crepe satin. The color comes through good on the flash picture (I think the 2nd listed).

Sewing?
Sewing - First Post :)
I've been sewing for about a month now. Not sure how I decided I wanted a sewing machine, but I got one and am so happy about it. This past Christmas break I returned to my old hobby of cross-stitching. Of course, I didn't finish the picture but I made good progress. I will attach a picture soon.
I think now that maybe Pinterest got me interested in sewing. I've collected quite a few old pairs of jeans and had no idea what to do with them. I saw ideas to make bags and all sorts of things, especially things I can use in my classroom. I got my machine and put it to the test. I made a yoga mat bag out of a leg of an old pair and embroidered a butterfly and "yoga" on the side. It's ok for me and being my first sewing project - far from perfect.
Here's a snapshot of the embroidery:
