First, I'd like to show a picture of my 50s jacket and poodle skirt I made in October:
I'm starting to think those were the last things I sewed this school year :-/ until...
The picture on the right is a before and left is after. The dress is a simple knit dress from TJMax. My friend bought it (for $13) but thought it was just a little too short in the back. I added a knit fabric that was tan with black stripes. The fabric was on sale and cost $10 for a yard ...but if I would've thought about how I would cut it a little longer in the store, I could've gotten away with only about 1/3 of a yard. The pattern worked with the selvage and I didn't have to cut the 36". In person, I think it made the dress a little more "dressy". I didn't add a bottom hem because it should be ok with the knit and I didn't want anything to seem bulky.
I'm itching for school to end so I can get working on my list of projects. I've got fabric for velvet pants, maybe a velvet jacket, a tweed jacket, maybe skirt too, a few hand bags, and of course, alterations of pants and mending.
Hopefully, it won't be so long between sewing again
